At about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014, 21-year-old Christopher Tschann, of Yorba Linda, was killed in a suspected DUI crash in Anaheim, reported the Los Angeles Times. While traveling at a high rate of speed on Canyon Rim Road in a residential area, the 24-year-old driver of the black Acura Integra Tschann was riding in lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree near Via Corral. Emergency responders pronounced Tschann dead at the scene. They transported the driver to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma.
Nationwide, motor vehicle crash fatalities increased in 2012 after six consecutive years of declining, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2011, the NHTSA recorded 32,479 accident fatalities; in 2012, the death toll rose to 33,561, representing a 3.3-percent increase. The number of people injured in motor vehicle collisions rose by 145,000 in 2012, the first significant increase since 1995.
