Shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, Deborah Perez was injured in a DUI crash in Aptos. While traveling on Fern Flat Road, 54-year-old John Tenecuya, of San Jose, lost control of his Mercedes Coupe, crashed into one dirt embankment and drove down another before slamming into a tree. Emergency responders transported Tenecuya and Perez to an area hospital. Authorities arrested Tenecuya on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.
“When a motorist’s negligence results in a crash causing injury to passengers, the motorist may be held liable for the expense of the passengers’ recoveries,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”
Throughout Santa Cruz County, 1,457 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle accidents in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 198 of the collisions that resulted in injury or fatality in the county that year.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Deborah Perez, the passenger who was injured in the DUI crash.
