3/23/2012Shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th, 47-year-old Jaimy Norene Gentry, of Tehachapi, was killed in a semi crash in Bakersfield. While traveling westbound on Edison Highway in a semi, 57-year-old Robert Raul Anaya ran a stop sign at Comanche Drive, striking Gentry’s Mitsubishi Eclipse, the impact causing both vehicles to collide with a Chevy Cobalt. Gentry sustained fatal trauma, while the two occupants of the Cobalt suffered minor injuries. Anaya was not hurt.
“When an accident results in trauma or fatality, the at-fault driver may be held liable for expenses related to the injury or loss,” explained California truck accident lawyer James Ballidis.
Bakersfield accounted for 18 of the 136 fatalities and 1,386 of the 4,313 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic accidents in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. That year, large trucks were involved in 19 fatal and 158 injury collisions in the county.
