At about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 17th, a motorcycle accident seriously injured an 18-year-old rider and killed his 19-year-old passenger in Baldwin Park. The crash occurred in the 3400 block of Patritti Avenue when the motorcyclist collided with a 1962 Chrysler Newport that was backing into a driveway. Paramedics transported the men to the hospital, where the passenger succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are investigating the crash.
“Passengers who suffer serious trauma in an accident may seek compensation from the negligent driver for expenses associated with their recovery,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis. “In the event that the injuries prove fatal, the family of the victim may pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver.”
Baldwin Park accounted for 2 of the 80 fatalities and 12 of the 2,709 injuries suffered by motorcyclists in traffic accidents throughout Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Baldwin Park 96th out of 104 cities with similar-sized populations for motorcycle safety, an above average ranking considering that 1st place is the worst a city may receive.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the passenger who was killed in the motorcycle accident. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the rider who was seriously injured.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune originally reported this crash.
