4/5/2012Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, April 4th, a suspected drunk driver struck and killed 21-year-old Conner McDermott Penhall on the 10 Freeway. Penhall, the son of former motorcycle racing champion and film star Bruce Penhall, was working on a project for Caltrans when a Toyota Rav4 veered into construction barricades and hit him. Authorities arrested the driver of the Toyota, 37-year-old Tatsuhiko Sakamoto, on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving without a license, and vehicular manslaughter.
“Although the incidence of alcohol-related traffic fatalities has declined in recent years, every life lost exacts a tremendous toll on the family of the victim,” said California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
Los Angeles County accounted for 204 of the 1,146 traffic fatalities and 4,672 of the 17,976 injuries that occurred in California in 2009 in which alcohol was a contributing factor, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The incidence of such fatalities decreased by 14.4 percent from 2009 to 2010 in the state.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Conner McDermott Penhall, the man who was struck and killed by the suspected drunk driver on the 10 Freeway last night.
