California hospitals fined for medical errors. Are you at risk?

Last month, California state officials fined nine California hospitals for medical errors. Three of these hospitals are in Orange County and the surrounding area. If you are a victim of a medical mistake, do you know your rights?

• In Mission Viejo, Mission Hospital Regional Center staff injected a newborn with morphine intended for the infant’s mother.

• Parkview Regional Hospital in Riverside was fined because a surgeon removed the wrong kidney from a patient with a kidney tumor.

• Joshua Tree’s Hi-Desert Medical Center was fined because a 4-year-old who was having her tonsils removed was burned by the cauterizing equipment.
