At about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014, a car crashed into a donut shop in Canoga Park, killing one person and seriously injuring four others, reported the Los Angeles Times. The accident occurred in the 8300 block of DeSoto Avenue when the driver of a silver Jeep Liberty, 42-year-old Kristin Chang, lost control in the parking lot and crashed through the shop. A regular customer was killed. Four others were taken to hospitals to receive treatment for major trauma. The accident is under investigation.
Los Angeles County ranked the 9th worst in the state for its incidence of fatal and injury car crashes in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. That year, 72,593 people were killed or injured in collisions that occurred in Los Angeles. Throughout California, 2,857 people lost their lives in traffic accidents that occurred in 2012, 1.5 percent more than in 2011.
