DUI Check points reduced accidents this labor day!
James E. Ballidis
Labor Day 2009 was one of the safest on record according to the California Highway Patrol holiday weekend report. No one was killed on Orange County freeways last weekend. One reason that our streets were safer than in past years was that the CHP arrested more than 100 DUI drivers in Orange County over the weekend. That is good news to a long time California auto accident attorney. Go ahead, put me out of work for drunk driving cases. I would be a lot happier and there are still plenty of cases arising from other accidents. Drunk driver cases are the most emotionally draining, and usually the driver has no insurance because of prior convictions. Get them off the streets!
In addition to CHP checkpoints, several other policing agencies set up major checkpoints in various cities across Orange County. Major arrests were made in Dana Point, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach and Irvine.
Statewide ten people were killed compared to 23 fatalities the year before. Checkpoints do save lives but require extra manpower on holiday weekends. No data was immediately released for any injury accidents in the area.
If you have been injured in a car accident by a drunk driver, you need an experienced personal injury attorney that can handle your individual situation.
