El Monte: Truck Crashed into Bus Bench, Killing Girl, Injuring Boy and Woman
Shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24th, a pickup truck crashed into a bus bench, the impact killing an 18-month-old girl and seriously injuring a 12-year-old boy and a 36-year-old woman in El Monte. While in a Walgreens’ parking lot on Valley Boulevard, the motorist drove through a parking stall, over a planter, and into the bench and the three pedestrians. They were transported to a nearby hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating the crash.
“Unfortunately, while most types of traffic fatalities have been declining in recent years, an increasing number of pedestrians have been fatally injured,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.
El Monte accounted for 2 of the 177 fatalities and 48 of the 5,215 injuries suffered by pedestrians in traffic accidents in Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The incidence of pedestrian fatalities rose 5.4 percent from 567 in 2009 to 599 in 2010.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the girl who was killed when the truck crashed into the bus bench. We would also like to wish the boy and woman injured in the accident a full recovery.
