Fresno: Passenger Jennifer Starr Killed in DUI Crash
At about 1 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 38-year-old Jennifer Starr, of Reedley, was killed in a DUI crash in Fresno. Starr was a passenger in a van that left the road while traveling southbound on Highway 99 near McKinley Avenue and struck a tree. Authorities arrested the driver of the van, 47-year-old Angelito Romero, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Drivers who harm others while violating traffic safety laws may be held liable for the cost of their recoveries,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis. “In the event the victims do not survive the accident, their families may file wrongful death claims against the at-fault driver.”
In 2010, 1,262 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents that occurred in Fresno, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 152 of the fatal and injury crashes that occurred in the city that year, with the OTS ranking Fresno 13th out of 13 similarly sized cities for its incidence of DUI crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Jennifer Starr, the passenger who was killed in the DUI crash.
The Fresno Bee originally reported this accident.
