Fresno: Semi Struck, Killed Cyclist Jesus Luera
In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 8, a semi truck struck and killed 57-year-old cyclist Jesus Luera in Fresno. Thirty-six-year-old Gurpreet Singh Bisla was traveling on Golden State Boulevard in a Freightliner truck when he hit Luera. He fled the scene of the accident but was later apprehended and arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run.
“When police are able to apprehend a hit-and-run driver, the accident victim may then pursue a personal injury claim in order to obtain compensation for recovery-related expenses,” explained California bicycle accident lawyer James Ballidis. “In the event that the victim does not survive the collision, his or her family may hold the driver liable by filing a wrongful death claim.”
The city of Fresno accounted for 3 of the 4 fatalities and 77 of the 146 injuries suffered by bicyclists in traffic accidents that occurred in the county in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Hit-and-run was a factor in 80 of the collisions that resulted in injury or fatality in the city that year.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Jesus Luera, the cyclist the semi struck and killed.
