At about 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 10th, 19-year-old Jonathan Plavney was killed and Raychel Stokes was seriously injured in a crash in Hesperia. While traveling westbound on Avenue E, Plavney lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet Camaro, veering into the eastbound lane of traffic, skidding, and slamming into a gold 1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville. Stokes, the driver of the Cadillac, was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center to receive treatment for her injuries. Witnesses, or anyone with information about this accident, are asked to contact Deputies Ryan Smith or Kevin McCurdy at 760-947-1500.

“After a collision resulting in serious or fatal injuries, the at-fault driver, or his or her auto insurer, may be legally obligated to compensate the victims or their families for expenses related to their injuries or loss,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.

Traffic crashes claimed the lives of 7 motor vehicle occupants and injured another 356 in Hesperia in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Throughout San Bernardino County, 192 motorists were killed and 10,983 were injured in crashes that year. San Bernardino ranked 45th out of 58 counties in the state that year for fatal and injury collisions—an above average ranking considering that 1st place is the worst a city can receive from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Jonathan Plavney, the driver who was killed in the crash yesterday. We would also like to wish a full recovery to Raychel Stokes, the driver who was seriously injured.

The Press-Enterprise originally reported this Hesperia collision.

Resources for accident victims and their families, including books and articles on the process of pursuing compensation for expenses related to the injury, are available to the public free of charge.

If you would like to request one of these free resources, or to discuss a specific legal matter with a California personal injury lawyer, feel free to call 866-981-5596.
