At about 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, 35-year-old Cuztodio Ramirez III, of Lemon Grove, was killed and his 24-year-old female passenger from El Cajon was seriously injured in a crash in Imperial County, reported U-T San Diego. While traveling eastbound on Interstate 8 in a truck that was towing an SUV, Ramirez lost control of the vehicle near Route 98. He veered from the road, and the tow truck crashed into some boulders at the bottom of an embankment. He died at the scene. Emergency responders flew the woman in the truck to an area hospital to receive treatment for a severe laceration to her head and chest pain. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
The California Highway Patrol’s most current records indicate that 12 people were killed and 707 were injured in motor vehicle accidents that occurred in Imperial County in 2011. Large trucks were involved in 1 of the fatal and 32 of the injury crashes that occurred in the county that year. The OTS ranked Imperial 56th out of 58 counties for it incidence of accidents resulting in injury or death in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
After an accident, those who were injured may file personal injury claims against the at-fault driver in order to receive compensation for the cost of their recoveries.
