At about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, three people were injured in a head-on collision in Irvine, reported the Orange County Register. The crash, which occurred on Alton Parkway near Technology Drive East, involved a Subaru wagon and a Toyota sedan. Emergency responders transported both drivers and a passenger of the Toyota to the hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are investigating the accident.
Motor vehicle crashes claimed the lives of 88 people and caused injury to another 17,182 in Orange County in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Four of those fatal and 1,226 of the injury collisions occurred in Irvine. The OTS ranked Irvine 36th out of 55 cities with populations of between 100,001 and 250,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
