Shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, 37-year-old Isaac Barajas was killed and Marco “Junior” Esquivel and another person were injured in a crash in Jurupa Valley, reported The Press-Enterprise. Barajas, Esquivel, and another good Samaritan rushed to help a motorist that had crashed into the back of a dump truck in the 3800 block of Riverview Road and were struck by an SUV. Barajas was pronounced dead at the scene. Esquivel and the other good Samaritan were transported to the hospital to receive treatment for the trauma they suffered. A fundraising website has been set up to help with the cost of Esquivel’s medical treatment.
Traffic accidents claimed the lives of 7 people and caused injury to 241 people in Jurupa Valley in 2011, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Thirteen of the collisions that resulted in injury or death involved pedestrians. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Jurupa Valley 38th out of 94 cities with populations of between 25,001 and 50,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury pedestrian accidents in a ranking system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
