Shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, a skateboarder was hurt in a collision with a truck in Laguna Beach, reported the Coastline Pilot. While riding northbound on South Coast Highway, the 14-year-old boy, of Laguna Beach, turned left into a marked crosswalk at Anita Street, where he collided with a Toyota pickup truck that was traveling south at the time. The boy suffered moderate trauma. Authorities are investigating the crash.
Laguna Beach accounted for 2 of the 14 fatalities and 191 of the 19,323 injuries people suffered in traffic accidents in Orange County in 2011, according to the California Highway Patrol’s most current crash data. Compared to 57 other California counties, Orange County ranked below average for fatal and injury traffic collisions. That year, skateboard-related injuries accounted for more than 78,000 emergency room visits among kids aged 19 years old or younger, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
When motorists harm skateboarders, the riders may file personal injury claims against the drivers in order to be compensated for the cost of their recoveries. For more information, please call 888-752-7474 or contact us online.
