Shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20th, lunch truck driver Elba Elizabeth Escobar, 55, was killed in a collision with a Mercedes in the Pico-Union area of Los Angeles. The accident occurred while Escobar was traveling eastbound on Washington Boulevard and was struck by a westbound Mercedes turning left onto Union Avenue, the impact causing the truck to roll over. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A passenger in the truck and the driver of the Mercedes were also hospitalized for their injuries. Authorities are investigating the accident.

“In the event that a motorist sustains fatal injuries in an accident, his or her family may pursue damages caused by their loss from the at-fault driver,” explained California truck accident attorney James Ballidis.

Throughout Los Angeles County, 390 motor vehicle occupants lost their lives and another 64,178 were injured in traffic accidents in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident statistics of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, with 1st place considered the worst. In 2010, Los Angeles ranked 15th out of 58 counties for fatal and injury crashes.

All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Elba Elizabeth Escobar, the driver of the lunch truck who was killed in the collision with the Mercedes last Tuesday.

LA Weekly originally reported this crash.
