Lynwood: 710 Freeway Accident Seriously Injured Five

At about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21^st, a car accident on the 710 Freeway seriously injured five people in Lynwood. While traveling in the northbound lanes, a 49-year-old man collided with another vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man while attempting to switch lanes near Rosecrans Avenue, the impact sending the vehicle into a 30-year-old Caltrans employee performing work on the side of the freeway. Two men and a three-year-old boy were passengers in the vehicle that was struck. The boy and the Caltrans worker were among five people who suffered major trauma in the crash. An investigation of the accident spanned into the evening hours, causing congestion during the rush hour commute.

“After a serious accident, a thorough investigation is necessary to assist authorities in determining how the incident occurred,” explained California personal injury lawyer James Ballidis.

Lynwood accounted for 3 of the 390 fatalities and 315 of the 64,178 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic accidents in Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident statistics of cities with similar populations, giving those with the worst records the highest rankings, with 1^st place considered the worst. That year, Lynwood ranked 62^nd out of 104 cities for fatal and injury crashes.
