When you say goodbye to your loved one in the morning, you expect to see them after work. But, every year, almost 6,000 American workers don't make it home.
Workplace deaths may be caused by:
- Motor vehicle crashes
- Machinery malfunctions
- Toxic exposure
- Slips and falls
- On-the-job violence
- Falling objects
- Electrical accidents
- Fire and explosions
- Safety violations and improper training
- Building code violations
Worker's compensation provides benefits to families who have lost a loved one to a workplace death. These benefits include: compensation for medical costs, payment of funeral costs, and a portion of the loved one's salary. However, these benefits cannot make up for the loss of the loved one.
By law, you cannot sue your loved one's employer for his death. However, in many cases, there is a third party who shares blame for the death. For example, if a loved one dies because a piece of workplace machinery malfunctions, the manufacturer of the defective machine may held liable.
A California wrongful death lawsuit can help your family financially and emotionally. For more information contact the Orange County wrongful death attorneys at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis and Leslie, 866-981-5596.
