At about 8:47 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2014, 55-year-old Maria Gonzalez, of Perris, was killed in a crash in Mead Valley, reported The Press-Enterprise. The two-vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of Markham and Beck streets. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported an adult female and an infant to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries. The accident is under investigation.
Throughout Riverside County, 10,924 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents in 2011, the most current year that California Office of Traffic Safety accident data are available. Compared to 57 other California counties, Riverside ranked well for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes, placing 53rd in a ranking system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Statewide, 2,816 people lost their lives in crashes that year.
