At about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, a vehicle struck and killed a male pedestrian in North Hollywood. While traveling in the 7300 block of Clyborn Avenue, a motorist hit the man, pinning him to the parked van that he had been standing behind; the impact forced the van into two other parked vehicles. A second male pedestrian was also injured and transported to a local hospital, along with a female passenger in the vehicle that caused the accident. Authorities took the male driver into custody and are investigating the accident.
“When a pedestrian suffers serious trauma in a traffic accident that is attributable to the negligence of a motorist, the victim may file an injury claim against the driver in order to obtain compensation for expenses associated with his or her recovery,” explained California injury lawyer James Ballidis. “In the event that the victim does not survive the crash, his or her family may pursue a wrongful death claim.”
Throughout Los Angeles County, 198 pedestrians lost their lives and another 4,786 were injured in traffic accidents in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the incidence of fatal and injury accidents that occur within California’s 58 counties. First place is the worst possible ranking a city may receive, followed by second, third, and so on. That year, Los Angeles ranked 2nd for pedestrian safety.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the male pedestrian whom the vehicle struck and killed. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the pedestrian and the passenger who were injured.
