Novato: Vehicle Struck, Seriously Injured Cyclist
On the morning of Saturday, June 8, a vehicle struck and seriously injured a 21-year-old female cyclist in Novato. The accident occurred at the intersection of Delong Avenue and Redwood Boulevard. Emergency responders transported her to an area hospital, where she was airlifted to Stanford Hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident and have asked that witnesses, or anyone with information, contact the Novato Police Department.
“When a traffic accident results in trauma, the negligent party may be held responsible for the cost of the victims’ recoveries,” explained California bicycle accident lawyer James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”
Ten bicyclists were killed or injured in traffic accidents that occurred in Novato in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS compares the traffic data of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, with 1st place considered the worst. That year, Novato ranked 67th out of 103 cities for its incidence of fatal and injury cyclist accidents.
