This week Ana Torres, 75 was found guilty by an Orange County Superior Court judge. Her crime was running over an 89 year old lady in a church parking lot and then lying to police about the facts of the accident.

The incident occurred last month at St. Joseph’s Church in Placentia. Torres was driving out of the parking lot when the victim, Jessie Pound was walking with her cane on the sidewalk. Torres then ran over Pound’s body and head, and then left the scene without giving aid or calling 9-1-1.

Pound was taken to a nearby hospital but died approximately 30 minutes later due to traumatic head and body injuries.  Orange County District Attorney has charged Torres with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and providing false information to a police officer. Additionally she can receive a stricter sentence due to the great bodily injury she caused.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 16th and she could receive sentences between 4-9 years in prison.
Hit and run accidents are a cowardly act. If you have been the unfortunate victim of this type of accident, it is important to have a Orange County automobile accident injury attorney on your side that can analyze your situation and coordinate communication between law enforcement, insurance and the persons involved.
