Desert Hot Springs accounted for none of the 153 fatalities and 80 of the 10,025 injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes that occurred in Riverside County in 2011, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident data of cities with similarly sized populations, giving those with the worst records the highest rankings, starting with 1st place. That year, Desert Hot Springs ranked 39th out of 94 cities with populations of between 25,001 and 50,000 for fatal and injury collisions.
