4/20/2012Shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19th, one person was killed and two were seriously injured in a head-on accident in Palm Springs. While traveling southbound on Gene Autry Trail, the female driver of a white Dodge Neon veered into opposing lanes of traffic and collided head-on with a brown Toyota Camry. The impact caused the Neon to roll, killing the driver. Paramedics transported the two occupants of the Camry to a local hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Authorities are investigating and have not eliminated the possibility that drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
“After a fatal accident, weeks may pass before the completion of the police investigation and details are available to the family of the decedent,” explained California personal injury attorney James Ballidis.
Palm Springs accounted for 4 of the 172 fatalities and 434 of the 10,963 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic collisions throughout Riverside County, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The crash data of cities with similar-sized populations are compared each year, with the California Office of Traffic Safety ranking those with the poorest records the highest. In 2010, Palm Springs placed the 3rd worst out of 93 cities with populations ranging from 25,001 to 50,000.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the woman who was killed in the head-on collision last night. We would also like to wish the two people who were seriously injured a full recovery.
