Paramount: Student Calvin Charles Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

At about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13^th, 14-year-old Calvin Charles was killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Paramount. The Dominguez High School student was crossing at the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Hunsacker Avenue when he was struck by a small, white pickup truck. The driver did not stop to administer aid to the teenager. Authorities are investigating and have asked that anyone with information concerning the accident call 562-623-3500. Paramount accounted for none of the 177 fatalities and 17 of the 5,215 injuries suffered by pedestrians in traffic accidents throughout Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident statistics of counties with similar populations, ranking those with the poorest records the highest, with 1^st place being the worst. That year, Los Angeles County placed 3^rd out of 58 counties for pedestrian safety.
