Pedestrian Accident: Jerilyn Fay Zimmerman Fatally Struck By Mercedes In Gardena

Last Wednesday, the driver of a 2010 Mercedes-Benz fatally struck Jerilyn Fay Zimmerman in Gardena. The pedestrian accident occurred in the 1400 block of 135th Street early that morning. Police have not released the driver’s name. They are investigating the accident and have asked witnesses, or anyone with information about the accident, to call 310-217-6135.

The investigation process for an accident involving the death of an individual can take substantially longer than that of one for an injury-accident, usually a month or longer as opposed to one or two days. During this time, detectives will conduct follow-up interviews with witnesses and may even canvass the location in which the accident occurred in search of additional information and witnesses. Further investigation may include questioning the driver so as to construct a timeline of his or her actions prior to the accident to identify any factors with which to attribute his or her negligence: lack of sleep, alcohol or drug use, or a relevant medical condition. The vehicle will also receive a comprehensive inspection.

During this process, police typically do not release any information pertaining to the ongoing investigation of a pedestrian accident. Understandably, this can be extremely frustrating for the family of the accident victim.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family of Jerilyn Fay Zimmerman.
