Shortly before 3:21 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, two people were injured in a head-on crash in Phelan, reported the Daily Press. The two-vehicle collision occurred in the area of Highway 18 and Pomona Road. Emergency responders airlifted one victim to Loma Linda and the other to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
The California Highway Patrol’s most current accident data indicate that motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of 137 people and caused injury to another 6,733 in San Bernardino County in 2011. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked San Bernardino 38th out of the state’s 58 counties for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
