At about 8:10 p.m. on Monday, August 19, one person was killed and nine were injured in two crashes, one involving a semi, on the 10 Freeway in Pomona. The crashes occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway near North Towne Avenue. One vehicle was trapped under the semi and burst into flames. Emergency responders airlifted four victims to area hospitals. Five others sustained minor to moderate trauma. Authorities are investigating the crashes.
“Crashes involving large trucks often result in serious injury, as the size and weight of the vehicles cause greater impacts,” explained California truck accident lawyer James Ballidis.
Throughout Pomona, traffic accidents claimed the lives of or caused injury to 703 people in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. The OTS ranked Pomona 23rd out of 53 cities for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst. Large trucks were involved in 47 of the fatal and 1,535 of the injury collisions that occurred in Los Angeles County that year.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of the person who was killed in the crash involving the semi on the 10 Freeway. We would also like to wish a full recovery to the nine people who were injured.
