At about 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 55-year-old Enrique Bautista-Villegas, of Fontana, was killed in a crash with a wrong-way driver in Riverside, reported The Press-Enterprise. Twenty-four-year-old Patricia Starr, of Moreno Valley, was reportedly traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Highway 60 in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala before heading north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 215, where she collided with the Toyota Corolla Bautista-Villegas was driving. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders extricated Starr and her female passenger from the wreckage and transported them to area hospitals to receive treatment for moderate to major trauma. Authorities determined that Starr was under the influence of alcohol and are investigating the accident.

The city of Riverside accounted for 15 of the 164 fatalities and 1,898 of the 10,594 injuries motor vehicle occupants suffered in collisions that occurred in the county in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 69 of the crashes that resulted in death and 930 of those that caused injury.

When a family loses a loved one to an alcohol-related traffic accident, the may file a wrongful death claim in order to hold the at-fault driver liable for their loss.
