In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 9th, 20-year-old passenger Jonathan Cuevas was killed in a rollover accident in Riverside. While driving eastbound on Arlington Avenue, 18-year-old Jacob Felix entered a curve at a high rate of speed, losing control of the 1995 Isuzu Rodeo. The vehicle rolled multiple times, ejecting Cuevas. He was pronounced dead at 2:05 a.m. Felix suffered trauma and is receiving treatment in the jail ward of Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley. Authorities suspect he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. Witnesses, or anyone with information, are asked to call Detective Ken Madsen at 951-826-8723.
“Violators of traffic safety laws who cause serious or fatal trauma to others may face civil actions from the victims in addition to criminal charges from the state,” explained California personal injury attorney James Ballidis.
The city of Riverside accounted for 16 of the 52 passengers killed and 1,316 of the 3,620 passengers injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. That year, alcohol was a contributing factor in 87 of the fatal and 986 of the injury accidents that occurred in the county.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer our condolences to the family of Jonathan Cuevas, the passenger who was killed in the rollover accident.
