Shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Monday, September 9, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a semi truck in San Dimas, reported the Los Angeles Times. The crash occurred on the westbound 10 Freeway near the Kellogg Drive exit. All westbound lanes between Highway 57 and Kellogg Drive were closed for more than two hours while authorities investigated the accident.
Across California, motorcycle fatalities increased 15 percent from 352 in 2010 to 414 in 2011, according to accident statistics from the California Office of Traffic Safety. In Los Angeles County, traffic accidents claimed the lives of 71 motorcyclists and caused injury to another 2,657 in 2010, with San Dimas accounting for 6 of the crashes that resulted in injury. Large trucks were involved in 47 of the fatal and 1,535 of the injury accidents that occurred in Los Angeles County that year.
