Shortly before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, one person was seriously injured in a head-on crash in San Juan Capistrano, reported the Orange County Register. While traveling on the Ortega Highway, a compact vehicle and a dump truck collided about a mile east of Antonio Parkway. An occupant of the compact vehicle sustained major trauma. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Throughout San Juan Capistrano, motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 67 people in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current crash data. Compared to 93 other cities with populations of between 25,001 and 50,000, San Juan Capistrano ranked 76th for traffic safety; 1st place is the worst possible ranking. In the entire state, traffic crashes claimed 2,816 lives that year.
