At about 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, a 19-year-old male motorcyclist was fatally injured in a collision with a Ford F150 truck in Santa Ana. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of West First Street at North Olive Street. Emergency responders transported the rider to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. He was declared dead hours later. Authorities are investigating the accident.
“The party determined by an investigation to be responsible for a traffic accident resulting in death may be held liable by the family of the victim through the wrongful death claims process,” according to a motorcycle accident attorney in Orange County.
Twenty-nine motorcyclists were killed or injured in traffic accidents that occurred in Santa Ana in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Statewide, motorcyclist fatalities increased 15 percent, from 352 in 2010 to 414 in 2011. Across the country, crashes claimed the lives of 4,612 motorcyclists in 2011, a 2.1 percent increase from 2010, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
