Shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, one person was injured in a crash on the 57 Freeway in Santa Ana, reported the Orange County Register. The four-vehicle collision occurred in southbound lanes near Orangewood Avenue, the impact causing one of the vehicles, a street sweeper, to roll over. Emergency responders transported the victim to an area hospital. Authorities are investigating the crash.
Throughout Orange County, 17,182 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2011, the most recent year for which California Highway Patrol crash statistics are available. Eighty-eight of the accidents that resulted in trauma occurred in Santa Ana, where auto accidents claimed one life that year. Countywide, 1,692 people were killed in collisions.
