At about 5:40 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, a woman was killed and a man was injured in a rollover crash in Santa Ana, reported the Orange County Register. The woman and man were occupants of a vehicle that collided with another vehicle at the intersection of North Newhope Street and Hazard Avenue. The impact caused their vehicle to strike a utility pole and overturn. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported the man to an area hospital to receive treatment for moderate trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident.
The California Highway Patrol records the number of accidents that result in injury or death throughout the state and in its cities and counties. In 2011, the most recent year for which crash data is available, one person was killed and 1,692 were injured in collisions that occurred in Santa Ana. Across Orange County, traffic accidents claimed 88 lives and injured 17,182 people. The California Office of Traffic Safety ranked Santa Ana 6th out of 13 cities with similarly sized populations for its incidence of fatal and injury crashes in a rating system in which 1st place is considered the worst.
