At about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014, Jake Gnasso, April Townsend and Ian Bulbenko, all 19 years old, were killed in a crash in Santa Clarita, reported the Los Angeles Times. While traveling on Rush Canyon Truck Trail, the driver of the pickup truck in which the teens were riding lost control, causing the vehicle to veer from the road and plunge 200 feet down an embankment. Two other teen passengers suffered moderate trauma. The accident was reported at 7:15 a.m. when one of them regained consciousness and called for help. Authorities are investigating whether or not alcohol was a contributing factor.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current accident statistics indicate that 798 people were killed or injured in crashes in Santa Clarita in 2011. Eight of the victims were involved in collisions in which the driver was under the age of 21.
