Santa Fe Springs: 605 Freeway Semi Crash Seriously Injured Child

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31^st, a crash on the 605 Freeway involving a semi seriously injured a child. The collision between the Honda Civic, Toyota Avalon, Nissan Altima, and semi occurred in the northbound lanes near Telegraph Road and left a 4-year-old boy in critical condition. The truck driver fled the scene of the crash. Santa Fe Springs accounted for 2 of the 390 fatalities and 420 of the 64,178 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in traffic accidents in Los Angeles County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the accident statistics of counties with similar populations, giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, with 1^st place considered the worst. That year, Los Angeles ranked 18^th out of 58 similarly sized counties.
