Signal Hill Motorcyclist Died In Freeway Accident
James E. Ballidis
Just minutes before 2 a.m. this morning a Signal Hill motorcyclist died after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a concrete wall on the 57 Freeway. Witnesses reported that prior to the freeway accident, the man had been speeding. The CHP is still investigating the cause of the accident, reported the Orange County Register.
While other forms of transportation have become increasingly safer in this country, motorcycles have remained the most dangerous motor vehicle to drive, explains an Orange County motorcycle accident lawyer. Motorcycle riders accounted for 5,290 fatalities and 96,000 injuries in 2008 alone, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The three states in which the highest number of fatalities occurred were California (537), Florida (523), and Texas (480). Moreover, the likelihood of colliding with a fixed object is greater for motorcycle riders than for the drivers of other vehicles: whereas 25% of motorcycle riders involved in fatal accidents collided with fixed objects, only 19% of car accidents, 14% of light truck accidents, and 4% of large truck accidents were attributed to this cause.
Safety tips for motorcycle riders include wearing a helmet, watching out for other drivers and debris in the road, regularly inspecting tires, and never drinking and riding.
The Orange County motorcycle accident lawyers at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to offer their condolences to the family of the Signal Hill motorcyclist who died in the freeway accident this morning.
