On the evening of Monday, August 4, 2014, four people were injured in a suspected DUI crash involving an ambulance in Stanton, reported the Orange County Register. While traveling southbound on Beach Boulevard in a Dodge Charger, 27-year-old John Dantzler crashed into a Car Ambulance Service rig that was traveling westbound on Garden Grove Boulevard. Dantzler and three ambulance attendants were taken to hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries. Authorities arrested Dantzler on suspicion of driving under the influence.
With an average population of 38,406 in 2011, the most current year for which California Office of Traffic Safety crash statistics are available, 144 people were killed or injured in accidents in Stanton. Alcohol was a factor in 27 of the fatal and injury collisions. In a comparison of the collision records of 94 similarly sized cities, the OTS ranked Stanton 30th for motor vehicle collisions and 7th for alcohol-related accidents; 1st place is considered the worst.
