Shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, Victor and Dorothy Austin were injured in a collision with a suspected drunk driver near Tehachapi. While traveling eastbound on Highway 202 in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, Daniel Bohl veered into the opposing lane of traffic and collided with the 2001 Toyota Tundra in which Victor and Dorothy were occupants. They suffered moderate trauma and were taken to an area hospital. Bohl also sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital. Authorities subsequently arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“When vehicle occupants are injured due to the negligence of another, they may hold that party liable for the expense of their recoveries by filing personal injury claims,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”
Tehachapi accounted for none of the 87 fatalities and 32 of the 4,278 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in crashes that occurred in Kern County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 40 of the fatal and 447 of the injury collisions that occurred in the county that year.
All of us at Allen, Flatt, Ballidis, and Leslie would like to wish a full recovery to Victor and Dorothy Austin, the two people injured in the collision with the suspected drunk driver.
