Tustin: 3-Year-Old Girl, Milena Avila, Killed in Car Accident

Shortly after 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 15^th, a motorist broadsided a car carrying a man, a woman, and a 3-year-old girl at the intersection of Edinger Avenue and Kensington Park Drive in Tustin. The girl, Milena Avila, suffered critical injuries and died about three hours later at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Three other vehicle occupants were also injured in the crash. Authorities are investigating the car accident, explains an Orange County auto accident attorney.

In 2009, Tustin accounted for 294 of the 18,867 fatal and injury traffic collisions that occurred in Orange County, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. That year, the number of traffic fatalities in the state decreased by 10.3 percent, from 3,434 in 2008 to 3,081 in 2009. Nationwide, midnight to 3 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays was the deadliest time to drive, with 1,024 and 1,072 fatal crashes, respectively, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA.
