On Thursday, October 23, 2014, 11-year-old Isaiah Shelton-Dobine was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Upland, reported the Los Angeles Times. Twenty-five-year-old Jason Fehr struck the boy, who was on his way to school, at the intersection of Arrow Highway and Benson Avenue with his white Jeep Cherokee and fled the scene. Shelton-Dobine was taken to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities apprehended Fehr and arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current crash data indicate that 297 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions in 2011. Eleven of the victims were pedestrians, two of whom were under the age of 15. Hit-and-run was a factor in 17 of the accidents that resulted in injury or death. Compared to 101 other similarly sized cities, Upland ranked 40th for collisions, 71st for accidents involving young pedestrians, and 43rd for hit-and-run crashes in a ranking system in which 1st place is considered the worst.

Once the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident has been apprehended, the family of the victim may hold him or her liable for their loss through the wrongful death claims process. For more information, please call 888-752-7474 or contact us online.
