Shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 43-year-old Rodolfo Amescua Borrego, of Highland, was fatally injured in a collision near Wrightwood, reported the Daily Press. A 2004 Volvo struck Borrego’s 1996 Honda at the intersection of State Route 138 and Lone Pine Canyon Road. Emergency responders transported him to an area hospital to receive treatment for major injuries. He was pronounced dead at 12:13 p.m. Authorities are investigating the accident.
Throughout San Bernardino County, 180 people died in motor vehicle collisions and another 11,050 were injured in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The California Office of Traffic Safety compares the crash data of the state’s 58 counties giving those with the poorest records the highest rankings, starting with 1st place. That year, the OTS ranked San Bernardino 36th for its incidence of fatal and injury collisions.
