Pomona: Two People Killed, One Injured in Semi Crash on Freeway

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, two people were killed and another was injured in a semi crash in Pomona. The collision, which involved a large box truck and a semi, occurred on the transition road that connects the eastbound 60 Freeway to the southbound 71. A man in his 20s and a man in his 40s died in the accident. Emergency responders airlifted a third victim to the hospital. Authorities are investigating the crash.

Freedom: Four Injured in DUI Crash

At about 9:15 p.m. on Monday, May 13, four people were injured in a DUI crash in Freedom. While traveling southbound on Freedom Boulevard in a 1995 Lexus GS300, 60-year-old Isabel B. Alvarado rear-ended a 2001 Mazda Protégé near Bowker Road. The impact seriously injured the 53-year-old man driving the Mazda; the 58-year-old female passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries. They were transported to area hospitals. Alvarado and the 54-year-old male passenger in her vehicle were taken to hospitals to receive treatment for moderate trauma. Authorities later arrested Alvarado on suspicion of felony driving under the influence. The accident is under investigation.

“Drunk driving claims thousands of lives annually in the United States and devastates even more families,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, a passenger was killed in a rollover accident in Mountain Pass. While traveling northbound on Interstate 15, a motorist veered from the road about two miles south of Nipton Road. The vehicle overturned, fatally ejecting the passenger. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Hesperia: Ruby Angie Bojorquez Killed in Multiple-Vehicle Collision

Shortly before 4 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, 30-year-old Ruby Angie Bojorquez, of Apple Valley, was killed in a multiple-vehicle collision in Hesperia. While traveling northbound on Interstate 15 in a 2002 Ford Mustang, Bojorquez crashed into the back of a vehicle and then was rear-ended by a 2008 Chevy Malibu. She was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevy, 22-year-old Garner Hicks, of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Another motorist involved in the crash, 32-year-old Kevin Patterson, of Inglewood, and his passenger, 22-year-old Jessica Mejia, of Santa Ana, suffered minor trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident.

Willowbrook: SUV Driver Injured in Police Pursuit

On the morning of Wednesday, May 1, the driver of a sport utility vehicle was injured in a police pursuit in Willowbrook. Police received reports of an attempted kidnapping at a Ralph’s grocery store at about 6:13 a.m. They chased the suspect, who was driving a four-door sedan, to 135^th Street and Avalon Boulevard, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed into an SUV, the impact sending it onto its side and causing the sedan to ignite into flames. Emergency responders extricated the driver of the SUV from the wreckage and transported the victim to an area hospital. Authorities arrested the suspect.

On the night of Tuesday, April 30, one person was killed and several were injured in a collision involving a drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles. Police suspect the occupants of a silver Pontiac perpetrated a drive-by shooting at a fundraiser at West 79^th and South Hoover Streets, causing a black Dodge Charger to chase the Pontiac to the intersection of Broadway and West Manchester Avenue, where the vehicles ran a red light and collided with cross traffic. The Pontiac slammed into a Saturn, the impact claiming the driver’s life. The driver of the Pontiac and passengers fled the scene on foot. The Charger crashed into a pickup truck, sending it into two parked vehicles and a bicyclist. Emergency responders transported the driver of the Charger to a hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Several other people were also treated for minor injuries. The accident is under investigation.

He was pronounced dead at the scene about thirty minutes later. Emergency responders extricated an 18-year-old female passenger from the truck. She was transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. Authorities are investigating the accident.

Jurupa Valley: Two Seriously Injured in Car Accident

At about 2:22 a.m. on Friday, March 22, two people were seriously injured in a car accident in Jurupa Valley. The crash occurred on Highway 60 at Valley Way. Emergency responders extricated the victims from the wreckage and transported them to a local hospital to receive treatment for major trauma. The accident is under investigation.

“After a collision resulting in injuries, the victims may file personal injury claims against the negligent driver in order to receive compensation for recovery-related expenses,” explained California car accident attorney James Ballidis, “such as for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.”

Throughout Riverside County, 11,417 people were killed or injured in traffic accidents in 2010, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. Nighttime collisions—those occurring between 9 p.m. and 2:59 a.m.—accounted for 1,076 of the crashes that resulted in injury or death that year.

Napa: Ross Meyers and Joey Kerney Injured in DUI Crash

At about 1 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 24-year-old Ross Meyers and 25-year-old Joey Kerney were injured in a DUI crash in Napa. While traveling southbound in the 6100 block of Wild Horse Valley Road, Meyers lost control of the 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and veered from the roadway, causing the truck to roll over. Emergency responders transported Meyers and Kerney, a passenger in the vehicle, to an area hospital. Authorities arrested Meyers on suspicion of driving under the influence.

“When a crash causes injury, the victims may pursue personal injury claims against the negligent driver in order to be compensated for their recovery-related expenses,” explained California car accident lawyer James Ballidis.

The city of Napa accounted for 1 of the 9 fatalities and 301 of the 808 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in crashes that occurred in the county in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 54 of the crashes that resulted in injury or fatality in the city that year.

San Marcos: Two Injured in Collision Between Dump Truck and Semi

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, two people were injured in a collision between a dump truck and a semi in San Marcos. The Staples office-supply semi collided with the truck at the intersection of Craven Drive and South Twin Oaks Valley Road, the impact causing both trucks to overturn, the dump truck spilling its load of rocks onto the road. Emergency responders transported both drivers to area hospitals. The accident is under investigation.

“Collisions involving large trucks can result in serious trauma due to the size and weight of the vehicles,” explained California truck accident lawyer James Ballidis. “Those who are injured in such accidents may file personal injury claims against the negligent driver in order to obtain compensation for the cost of their recoveries.”

San Marcos accounted for none of the 126 fatalities and 308 of the 15,939 injuries suffered by motor vehicle occupants in crashes that occurred in San Diego County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. Large trucks were involved in 8 of the fatal and 228 of the injury accidents that occurred in the county that year.
