How do I file an auto accident claim.

There are several basic steps to filing and processing an auto accident case.  To help, follow these simple steps to protect your claim.

Call your insurance company immediately.  If the accident is not your fault, you will not have a premium increase and you can confirm your coverage.  If you have medical payments coverage, then your medical bills can be paid even if the accident is your fault.  If not your fault, the other side will not immediately pay your bills, so using this coverage allows you to get medical treatment and not be out of pocket.  Also check if you have collision coverage and rental insurance.  You can get the repairs started on your car immediately.

Next set up a claim with the other insurance company if the accident was not your fault.  You can do this by calling and reporting the accident, date, car you were driving and the other party's identity.  Tell them you are hurt, but do not volunteer or discuss any injury you have. Do not sign any authorizations or agree to give any statement.  It is not required no matter how much they will tell you it is, and they only want to use this tool to hurt your claim later.

Get to the doctor if you are hurt, and do it quickly.  Do not wait, thinking your injuries will heal on their own.  If you get better quickly, then it will be no harm to get checked out.

Lastly, start a personal diary of your injuries and symptoms.  Do not share this with anyone except an attorney if you hire one, but use it later to remind you of your injuries when you settle the case.

Follow these simple rules and you can make file your own claim in minutes.  If this is something you would like a professional to help you with, call our office for a free consultation at 1 866-981-5596.
