The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of over a million blankets, storage trunks and coffee makers that are sold at Walmart and Target stores nationwide.

1.Giraffe security Blanket
About 44,000 security blankets were recalled from Target stores. The blanket is pink, says “I Love You”, and has a plush giraffe head. These blankets were sold between January 2009 and August 2009.  They cost about $9 each and are made in China for Target stores.

The balls on the tips of the giraffe’s horns can detach causing a choking hazard.

2.Woven Storage Trunk
Target is recalling 350,000 woven storage trunks after two reports of injuries caused when the trunk’s lid unexpectedly closed on a child.  An 18-month-old girl sustained brain damage when the trunk’s lid suddenly came down on the back of her neck and pinned her throat to the edge of the trunk.

The trunks were sold at Target stores between February 2009 and April 2010 for $50 to $130.

3.General-Electric 12-cup digital coffee maker
Approximately 900,000 coffee makers are being recalled from Walmart stores. The 12-cup digital coffee makers are made by General Electric and were sold between March 2008 and January 2010.  The coffee makers retail for around $30.

The recall comes after 30 reports of overheating, smoking, melting, burning and fire.  Three consumers suffered burn injuries to their hands, feet or torso. There are reports of significant property damage.
