California truck accidents are caused by frequent violations of the law. This article discusses the obligation to travel at 55MPH on highways and in the right hand lanes.

California truck laws provide specific guidelines for truck operation. In the last few years, while the laws have remained unchanged, a number of truck drivers have been noted as violating these laws. These laws protect you and me from injury. Trucks should travel slower than other traffic because of the probable harm they will cause if involved in an incident and the inability to slow them rapidly when an emergency occurs. Failure to abide by these laws and causing an accident or injury will assess more severe liability and damages claims against these drivers. Truck drivers are liable for causing an accident when they fail to honor the rules of the road designed to protect you and me. Here are some of the laws that are applicable to speed and lane operation of trucks in California
California Vehicle code section 22406 states, no person may drive a motor truck or truck tractor having three or more axles any of the following vehicles on a highway at a speed in excess of 55 miles per hour:
Trucks and trailer-towed vehicles must either use the designated lane, if there is one, or the lane as closely practicable to the right hand side of the road. California Vehicle code section 21655 notes if a lane has not been designated those vehicles shall be driven in the right-hand lane for traffic. With 4 or more lanes on a divided highway, those vehicles the truck may use the second to the right lane as well.
Trucks not honoring these simple rules cause many truck accidents. Automobiles change lanes and move through traffic more quickly and therefore trucks should stay to the right, where they are safe and so are you.
