A 6-year-old girl died at the hospital from injuries sustained in an Anaheim pedestrian car accident.
Vanessa Mendoza was struck by a car on the evening of Saturday, October 2. The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on the 1600 block of East Redwood Avenue when Vanessa ran into the path of a 1999 red KIA Sportage. The seventeen-year-old driver was not able to stop in time.
The young driver took Vanessa and her parents to UCI Medical Center in Orange to be treated for her injuries; however, the injuries proved to be fatal. Vanessa Mendoza was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The driver was not cited. The accident is still under investigation.
Nearly one-quarter of traffic fatalities among children five to nine years old occur when the child is a pedestrian.
