Posted on Apr 28, 2014
At about 6 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, 73-year-old Marisa Malin, of Cerritos, was killed in a crash outside of Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in Buena Park, reported the Los Angeles Times. An elderly couple left the restaurant and accidently hit the accelerator instead of the brake on their silver SUV, sending the vehicle into a crowd of people. Emergency responders transported Malin to an area hospital, where she was declared dead. Several people were also taken to hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries. Authorities are investigating the crash.
In Buena Park, motor vehicle collisions claimed the lives of or caused injury to 454 people in 2011, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current crash statistics. Twenty-nine of the accidents that resulted in injury or death involved pedestrians, three of whom were aged 65 or older. The OTS ranked Buena Park 30th out of 102 cities with populations of between 50,001 and 100,000 for its incidence of fatal and injury pedestrian accidents; 1st place is considered the worst.
Under California law, those who’ve lost loved ones to traffic accidents have recourse through the civil claims process. To learn more, please call 888-752-7474 or contact us online.
